Germanium when added to copper or silver alloys forms a protective germanium oxide coating which increases corrosion resistance along with creating patinas that take on colors similar to a heat patina! 

Germanium is highly sought after these days in the US. Most germanium is mined in China and due to trade restrictions the price of germanium has shot up astronomically!

Despite the high cost germanium imparts some really amazing properties to bronze in its liquid and solid state such as increased fluidity while liquid and better hardness and corrosion resistance while solid.
